Still More Questions than Answers

I heard from the pediatrician on the MRI and got confirmation that there is an abnormality with Audrey's brain shown on the MRI.  The condition is schizencephaly - also referred to as "unilateral closed lip" (as opposed to open lip) which can be much worse and challenging than the closed lip.  In lay terms, its an abnormal "groove" if you will in her brain.

With this condition you can have seizures, gross motor development delays, one sided weakness, and mild to moderate intellectual delays.  Really only time will tell how much she'll be effected and the next step is to see a neurologist (set for 9am Thursday).

Her pediatrician is hopeful Dr. LePichon at Children's Mercy will have more insight and experience with this finding as she has not had any experience with it.  And unfortunately she was also unsure of the relationship between OMA (ocular motor apraxia) and schizencephaly - so I guess in short we just got another term thrown our way and continue to have more questions than answers.

We are truly blessed to have amazing friends and family and an incredible support system.  Honestly, we are keeping a positive outlook on things and remind ourselves every day God will not give us anything we can't handle.
One step at a time.

All of your prayers are greatly appreciated.  Lots of love to each of you!
