And, so it begins. School. For the next thirteen years for Emily Jo (and 15 for me - but who's counting)? we will run our lives based on when the bus is coming, school programs, sporting events, program times, field trips, spring breaks, parent teacher conferences etc.
I think I am prepared and I am fairly convinced I am ready for this new chapter. I like to think I am stopping to appreciate the time and the moment we are in with this journey of parenthood. I am prepared it will fly by, but I'm sure I will still be surprised by just how fast it really will all go by.
We began our day completely "prepared". On Monday we started a new routine and moved both girls from YMCA preschool to another preschool called Kids R Kids. This program offers before and after school care as well as summer programs for Emily Jo - allowing us to pick up and drop off both girls in one location. That is a huge deal. Emily Jo will take the (yellow) bus to school in the mornings. They pick her up right in front of our house. Then, Kids R Kids has a little shuttle that picks her up at the end of the school day. Obviously, they are also open for care on the days school is off for in service etc….day three I am completely convinced we made a wonderful choice in care. Both girls have fallen in love with the place and have had ZERO problems at drop off (naturally, I was most concerned with Audrey). But, just tonight I asked her if she wanted to go back to Ms. Nancy's class and she was very adamant - NO - kind of sad really. All parents want their kids in a HAPPY place when they leave to go earn a living ;)
Anyway - I digress….its been awhile since I have posted and I plan on back tracking for the last 7 months I have missed. Not to worry - the pictures and memories are still there and I WILL catch you all up!! STAY TUNED!
So, with the change of schools came a brand new "chore chart" - or better known as DIME TIME in our house! We review how each girls day went every night. Audrey's tasks revolve around her being a BIG GIRL and Emily Jo's being a TEAM PLAYER. So far it has been a HUGE success. They do want to please us and be helpers - who knew? We also have started having a sit down breakfast at 7am after we are all up and dressed. Its just been wonderful. Oh - and we jumped on the miracle habit of picking our clothes out the night before!
So - as we were all smiles this morning ONE missing detail had NOT been discussed!!!!!!!!!!!! LUNCH! Uh - oh! Here I had made a huge deal shopping online and picking her own unique backpack with her monogram and everything - of course, you have to get the matching lunch box! Well, Emily Jo wanted to USE that lunch box - I was not prepared and had to throw something together quick. Bagel, banana, go-gurt it was ;-)

So, at the end of the day Dad and I picked her up early to take her out for ice cream to hear ALL about her first day. She thought her teacher was "pretty nice" and that lunch went really fast. It was over before she knew it. Her entire class "got clipped up" for behavior (which means they moved from the green level to the orange - the top level is PINK - and pretty hard to get to it sounds like). Emily Jo is on a mission…hopefully to be clipped to the top! So, here is to a fantastic year of Kindergarten and a blessed school career for Emily Jo. We love you booga-bear!!!! xoxo
